And there she is, in a doorway, naked: a slight young woman trying to fight off a rapist who had begun his assault on the floor above--her eyes blackened, bruises on her neck, blood running from her mouth. Part of the crowd bestirs itself. Some 40 people move closer to the doorway to get a better look. The rapist starts dragging her up the stairs. No one else moves. Until finally two cops app...
